Rowledge Village Hall has stood for over 110 years. When you enter there you follow in the footsteps of many generations of villagers who have gathered there for all types of celebrations, gatherings and functions, including dances, discos, quizzes, local theatre and musical performances.
It supports many regular activities for all ages such as scouts and beavers for the young and meeting places for adults.
Every Friday morning, there is Coffee Spot where villagers can come together and chat while enjoying coffee, tea and home made cakes.
The village hall is now time-consuming to maintain and costly to run. Over the years, there have been several proposals to replace it. The latest plan is sell the existing land and build a new hall at the other end of School Road. This plan has approval from Waverley B.C. and is now in the fund-raising stage. A number of villagers feels that the existing building could be retained and improved incrementally. The residents association is neutral on this issue.
The general slowdown in economic activity and increase in the price of materials have prompted a gap in the finances for the new Village Hall. Its committee is busy fund raising and considering revisions to its original design. The Rowledge Residents Association has invited the committee to give a short address on progress to the next RRA AGM.
